Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or GORD) is a condition affecting about 20% of the western population, making this the most common and costly GI condition with an estimate of 8 billion of cost. It can lead to significant reduction in quality of life and a significant burden in cost of diagnosis, testing and treatment. Also, it can lead to mucosal injury to the oesophagus (erosive oesophagitis) and precancerous condition such as Barrett’s oesophagus.
